BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalkeeper Alex Brown (Sr., Clayton, Calif./Carondelet) of No. 7-ranked the University of Michigan made 43 saves with an assist and four steals over the span of four games at the 2023 Arizona State University Cross Conference Challenge to garner recognition as the January 16 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Defensive Player of the Week.

A four-time Defensive Player of the Week selection with previous recognition in 2021 (March 22) and 2022 (February 14, March 7), Brown helped the Wolverines top Biola University (14-0 W), California Baptist University (16-5 W), Azusa Pacific University (18-6 W) and host/No. 10 Arizona State (11-10 OT W) to open the season with a 4-0 mark.

She made 14 saves in a blanking of Biola on Friday, January 13, to open the 2023 season to earn the program’s first shutout since a 16-0 defeat of Mount St. Mary’s University at the 2021 CWPA Championship hosted at home in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Following a seven save performance with three goals against in 24 minutes against Cal Baptist to open competition on Saturday, January 14, Brown turned aside six shots with five goals allowed over the span of 16 minutes versus Azusa Pacific.

In an early season clash of Top 10 teams, she went the distance with 10 saves and 10 goals allowed as the Wolverines edged the host Sun Devils in overtime.
