BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalie Alex Brown (Jr., Clayton, Calif./Carondelet) of No. 6-ranked the University of Michigan recorded 44 saves and a .647 save percentage in four matches at the University of California-San Diego’s Triton Invitational on February 12-13 to earn status as the February 14 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Defensive Player of the Week.

A two-time Defensive Player of the Week selection following previous recognition on March 22, 2021, Brown opened the weekend slate with 10 saves and no goals allowed in a 14-2 defeat of Division III No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Saturday, February 12.  She returned to the water in the evening to make four saves as the Wolverines turned back No. 10 University of California-Davis, 7-5, to punch the program’s ticket to the tournament semifinals.

Facing No. 1 the University of California-Los Angeles on Sunday, February 13, with a spot in the title game on the line, Brown stopped 11 shots as the Maize & Blue fell in a nailbiter to the top-ranked Bruins, 7-6.  She concluded the weekend docket by turning away 19 Rainbow Wahine shots in a 14-13 overtime loss to No. 5 the University of Hawaii as Michigan claimed Fourth Place.
