BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — University of Michigan water polo rising sophomore Ava Morrant (Maple Ridge, B.C./Maple Ridge Secondary) and Team Canada will play for the Bronze Medal at the 2019 World University Summer Games in Naples, Italy, as the team fell to the host Italians by a 15-7 score in the tournament semifinals.

Canada will contest the Third Place game at 6:00 p.m. local time against the loser of a semifinal pitting Hungary versus the Russian Federation.  Canada and Hungary met once before in the tournament with Hungary collecting a 16-7 victory.

Morant, who played in 27 games with eight goals, four assists, seven steals and three field blocks for Michigan in 2019, is continuing a tradition of international appearances. She helped lead the Canadian 19U national team to a gold medal at the 2018 Pan American Games and a 10th-place finish at the 2018 FINA Youth World Championships. She also earned a bronze medal at the 2017 17U Pan American Games.
