BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Harriet Dickens (So., Bolton, England/Bolton School) of the University of Michigan women’s water polo team joins former Wolverines Sophie Jackson and Katharine Rogers on the Great Britain roster for the 2026 Senior Women European Aquatics Championships on January 26-to-February 5 in Funchal, Portugal, at the Funchal Olympic Pools Complex.

Great Britain will face defending champion the Netherlands, Israel and Switzerland in their Group D opening games at the European Aquatics Championships. 

  • Monday, January 26 – 6.45 p.m. vs Netherlands
  • Tuesday, January 27 – 3.30 p.m. vs Israel 
  • Thursday, January 29 – 8.15 p.m. vs Switzerland

The British squad – which secured 11th place in the competition rankings in Singapore – heads to Portugal with three current/former Michigan athletes on dotting the Great Britain roster:.

Dickens will compete for her home country following a freshman season in Ann Arbor, Mich., during which she posted nine goals, nine assists, three drawn exclusions and six steals over the span of 25 games in aiding the Maize & Blue to a third place finish at the 2025 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship.

The captain for Great Britain, Rogers racked up 77 goals, 35 assists, 29 drawn exclusions, 82 steals, 56 field blocks and a 48-for-65 mark in sprints in 109 games for the Wolverines from 2019-to-2021.  A native of New Forest, England, and a graduate of Trinity School, the 2021 team captain aided Michigan in capturing a trio of CWPA Championships and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship berths in 2018, 2019, and 2021 with the 2020 season a casualty of the COVID-19 outbreak prior to the commencement of league competition.

A goalkeeper, Jackson competed for Michigan from 2019-to-2022 with a 15-1 record, 181 saves, 22 steals, six assists and a 6.23 goals against average in 644 minutes.  The 2022 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Elite 90 award recipient – presented to the athlete with the highest grade point average among the competing teams at the NCAA Championship – she was a member of Michigan’s 2019, 2021 and 2022 CWPA Champion/NCAA Championship qualifying teams.
