BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Goalie Heidi Ritner (Fr., Newport Beach, Calif./Corona del Mar) made eight saves with 12 goals allowed and a steal in a 12-6 loss by No. 7-ranked the University of Michigan to No. 3 the University of Southern California in the quarterfinals of the 2017 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women’s Water Polo Championship hosted at the IU Natatorium on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis to collect recognition as the May 15 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week.
The performance raises Ritner’s season totals to 307 saves with 215 goals against for a 6.59 goals against average and .588 save percentage with a 27-9 record, 11 assists and 41 steals in 1043 minutes of action.
The awards marks the eighth and ninth weekly honors of the season for Ritner as she previously earned nods as the January 23, February 27 and April 10 CWPA Division I Defensive Player and Rookie of the Weeks in addition to sharing the February 13 Rookie of the Week award.
