BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Julia Sellers (Sr., Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) of the University of Michigan led her team with three field blocks to accompany two steals with four goals and a pair of assists during a 2-2 weekend at the season-opening University of California-Santa Barbara Winter Invitational.  For her efforts, Sellers is named the January 21 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Defensive Player of the Week.

Leading a defense which held all four of the No. 9-ranked Wolverines’ opponents to under 10 goals, Sellers factored in both scores as he posted a goal with an assist in a 9-2 loss to defending National Champion/No. 1 University of Southern California.  Facing No. 18 California State University-Northridge, she punched in a pair of markers as the Maize & Blue rolled to a commanding 11-5 victory to cap the first day of the tournament on Saturday, January 19.

Against No. 2 University of California-Los Angeles, Sellers found the back of the cage once and snared two steals in a 9-7 loss to the Bruins to commence action on Sunday, January 20.  In the final game of the weekend, she handed out an assist as Michigan collared the Bulldogs of Fresno State, 11-6.
