BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Kata Utassy (Jr., Budapest, Hungary/Konyves Kalman Secondary School) posted 13 goals, five assists, seven steals and a field block during a 4-0 weekend for the No. 7-ranked Wolverines of the University of Michigan at Arizona State University’s Cross Conference Challenge.  For her performance, Utassy is named the January 16 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Player of the Week.

A three-time (March 1, April 12, April 26) CWPA Division I Rookie of the Week selection during the 2021 season, Utassy earns her inaugural Player of the Week nod after aiding the Maize & Blue in downing Biola University (14-0 W), California Baptist University (16-5 W), Azusa Pacific University (18-6 W) and the host/No. 10 Sun Devils (11-10 OT W) as Michigan opened the 2023 season with a 4-0 mark.

She struck for a goal, three assists, a field block and a pair of steals against Biola on Friday, January 13, prior to accounting for three goals, an assist, three steals and a field block to begin play on January 14 against Cal Baptist.  Utassy tacked on five goals, an assist, a drawn exclusion and a pair of steals later in the day versus Azusa Pacific.

On Sunday, January 15, against Arizona State in an early season clash of Top 10 teams, she snuffed out the Sun Devils with three markers and a steal as Michigan went to overtime against the home squad before pulling out a one-goal victory.
