BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Kata Utassy (Sr., Budapest, Hungary/Konyves Kalman Secondary School) contributed seven goals and seven assists during a 3-1 weekend for No. 8-ranked the University of Michigan at the 2024 Barbara Kalbus Invitational hosted by the University of California-Irvine.  For her performance, Utassy is named the February 26 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Player of the Week.

A three-time (March 1, April 12, April 26) CWPA Division I Rookie of the Week selection during the 2021 season, Utassy earns her seventh Player of the Week nod after picking up the January 16, January 23, April 3, April 10 and April 17 honors during the 2023 season.  She also garnered Player of the Week status on January 22 earlier in 2024.

Utassy opened the weekend trip to the West Coast by registering a goal, an assist and a pair of steals in a 16-11 loss to host/No. 7 UC-Irvine on Friday, February 23.  On Saturday, February 24, she dished out four assists, drew an exclusion and snagged two steals in a 14-4 downing of California State University-Fullerton prior to racking up four goals, a steal and a field block in an 8-5 dispatching of No. 13 the University of California-Santa Barbara.

In the tournament’s Ninth Place game on Sunday, February 25, Utassy capped off her weekend by chipping in two goals, two assists, a drawn exclusion, three steals and a field block to aid the Wolverines in disposing of No. 11 Arizona State University, 9-8.
