BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Luisa Nierhoff (Fr., White Plains, N.Y./White Plains) of the University of Michigan made 46 saves over the span of 120 minutes to earn status as the April 3 Big Ten Division Player of the Week.

A new water polo athlete with three months of experience in the sport, she held her own against the Big Ten for the Michigan “A” and “B” teams.

Competing for the Michigan “B” team, she made 12 saves in a 5-3 loss to the University Wisconsin and stopped 14 shots in an 8-3 defeat by the  University of Iowa on Saturday, April 1.  On Sunday, April 2, she turned away seven shots in a 16-5 loss to the University of Illinois prior to moving up to the “A” roster and blocking 13 scoring tries in an 18-0 shutout of Purdue University.

The win over Purdue helped the “A” team conclude the weekend with a perfect 4-0 mark as Michigan clinched an undefeated conference mark of 8-0 and the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Big Ten Division Championship on Saturday-Sunday, April 22-23, at Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa.
