BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Sofie Pontre (So., Perth, Western Australia/Santa Maria College) contributed a goal for No. 6-ranked the University of Michigan in a 13-7 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship quarterfinals loss to No. 3 the University of California-Los Angeles at Stanford University’s Avery Aquatics Center to earn status as the May 13 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Defensive Player of the Week.

A first-time weekly honor selection in 2019, the nod marks the fourth weekly accolade bestowed on Pontre as she previously earned the January 22 and May 14 Rookie of the Week and March 5 Defensive Player of the Week awards in 2018.

She concludes a sophomore season in which she tallied 15 goals, 16 assists, 17 drawn exclusions, 23 steals and eight field blocks to raise her career stats to 38 goals, 31 assists, 29 drawn exclusions, 56 steals and 14 field blocks.
