BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Sophie Jackson (Sr., West Yorkshire, England/The Crossley Heath Grammar School) of No. 6-ranked the University of Michigan helped the Wolverines open the season with a 3-1 mark at the Arizona State University Cross Conference Challenge.  For her performance, Jackson is named the January 24 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division I Defensive Player of the Week.

A two-time selection following previous co-Defensive Player of the Week honors on April 26, 2021, Jackson played the second half of each game during the weekend with 23 saves and five steals as the Wolverines topped No. 8 Fresno State University (9-7 W), No. 9 Arizona State University (10-8 W OT) and No. 7 University of California-Irvine (7-6 W) with a 12-8 loss to No. 4 the University of California.

Facing the host and then No. 4-ranked Sun Devils, she played 22 minutes and made eight saves for a .615 save percentage as the Wolverines claimed an overtime victory against ASU.  She earlier notched three saves to earn the win as the Maize & Blue downed UC-Irvine and chipped in three saves during the contest against California.

In the weekend finale versus Fresno State, she turned aside six shots as Michigan wrapped up its opening weekend with a trio of Top 10 wins.
