The University of Strathclyde is based in the heart of Glasgow in the north of the United Kingdom. It offers the perfect blend of big-city energy and welcoming community spirit. It’s known for its friendly atmosphere, cultural vibrancy, and diverse student population.

Ranked as the fourth Best Student City in the UK (QS Best Student Cities Survey, 2025) and recognized as one of the most affordable places to live (NatWest Student Living Index, 2024), Glasgow provides an exceptional student experience at a reasonable cost.

Depending on your lifestyle, annual living expenses in Glasgow generally range from £10,000 to £15,000 (approximately $13,190–$19,780* per year). *Based on exchange rate of £1.00 GBP to $1.32 USD

Named UK University of the Year 2026 (Daily Mail, 2025), the University of Strathclyde offers a wide selection of academic programs across four distinguished Faculties:

  • Faculty of Engineering, the largest engineering faculty in Scotland
  • Strathclyde Business School, one of only 129 business schools worldwide to hold Triple Accreditation (AMBA, AACSB, EQUIS)
  • Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences, which includes the highly respected Strathclyde Law School

Graduate study in the UK offers a faster route to qualification than in the United States—most Master’s degrees are completed in just one year of full-time study.

Play

Water Polo is one of Strathclyde’s six official Varsity sports. The Women’s team competes in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Premier League, the UK’s equivalent of an NCAA Division I conference. They have also achieved impressive success as back-to-back BUCS National Trophy Champions in 2023–24 and 2024–25.

The Men’s team is rapidly developing and currently competes in Scotland’s top competitive tier.

Strathclyde is actively seeking motivated and high-performing Water Polo athletes—both men and women, undergraduate and postgraduate—to join their squads for the 2026–27 academic year and beyond. Additional details about the Water Polo programme are available on the University website.

Eligibility

Eligibility rules for UK university sport differ from those in the US. This means former National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) athletes remain eligible to compete, regardless of the number of years they previously played college sports in the United States.

Financial Aid

In addition to partial athletic scholarships (up to 40% tuition fee discounts), the University of Strathclyde is approved by the US Department of Education to allow US students to access Federal Aid through the William D Ford Federal Direct Loan program.

Academic Entry Requirements

Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Water Polo Scholarship Selection Criteria

Preference is given to athletes with experience competing on an NCAA Division I roster.

Performance Sport Enquiry Form

Athletes interested in joining the University of Strathclyde’s Water Polo program should complete the Performance Sport Enquiry Form by midnight (BST) on January 5 (7:00 p.m. Eastern on January 4/4:00 p.m. Pacific Standard Time).
