LEWISBURG, Pa. — The Mercyhurst University men’s water polo team suffered two setbacks to Wagner College. 17-5, and St. Francis College Brooklyn, 21-7, on the final day of play at the Bucknell Invitational hosted by Bucknell University.

In game one, the Lakers fell to Wagner as the Seahawks jumped out to an early 5-0 lead after quarter number one. Wagner went on to score the first two goals in the second quarter to push the program’s lead to 7-0.

Mercyhurst put a halt to Wagner’s scoring run as Michael Gutman punched in a power play goal with 6:04 remaining in the second quarter to put the Lakers on the board. Gutman added another power play goal two minutes later to shrink Wagner’s lead to 7-2.

However, the Seahawks plucked four goals prior to halftime to carry an 11-2 lead into the break.

During the third stanza, Mercyhurst’s lone goal was credited to Aleksa Vucurovic who scored with 3:18 remaining in the quarter to move the Lakers within 14-3.

Mercyhurst closed out its scoring at the 3:19 mark of the fourth quarter as JP Kirouac drilled in a shot.

Freshman goalkeeper Tony Golin logged 10 stops in his eight minutes of action to lead the Lakers’ defensive efforts.

In game two, St. Francis Brooklyn raced out to a 9-3 lead by halftime and never looked back in rolling to victory.

Gutman, Vucurovic, and Kiouac each tallied two goals for Mercyhurst versus the Terriers.
