GROVE CITY, Pa. — The Wheaton College women’s water polo team closed out the final Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III weekend with a 25-1 loss to Division III No. 6-ranked Augustana College at Grove City College’s James E. Longnecker Competition Pool.

The Lyons fall to 0-9 overall and 0-9 in conference play, while Vikings improve to 12-8 and 5-3 in CWPA action.

Sophomore Amelia Brown (Acton, Mass.) tallied the lone goal for Wheaton.

Sophomore center Alayna Ickert (Flower Mound, Texas) led all scorers with five markers for Augustana, while junior utility player Jersey Merrick (Chicago, Ill.) netted four goals. Junior attacker Mary King (Bakersfield, Calif.) contributed with three goals for the Vikings.

Augustana scored all 12 goals in the opening quarter, fueled by three markers from King. The Vikings added five more goals in the second quarter to take a 17-0 advantage at the intermission. 

Augustana tallied the first four goals of the third quarter with Ickert and Merrick each scoring twice to increase the Vikings’ cushion to 21-0 with 3:01 left in the third quarter. Brown put the Lyons on the board with a goal at the 2:35 mark of the quarter to make it 21-1.

Augustana added four more goals in the fourth quarter to set the final.
