BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Whittier College, located in Whittier, Calif. and a member of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), seeks a Director of Aquatics / Head Coach Men’s and Women’s Water Polo.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Athletics and Special Assistant to the President, the Director of Aquatics / Head Men’s and Women’s Water Polo Coach at Whittier College is responsible for scheduling the aquatic programming for the aquatic center to include, classes, swim meets, water polo matches , tournaments, swim lessons, etc., assists with hiring, training and scheduling qualified lifeguards, instructors and all other pool staff; supervises lifeguards, instructors and other aquatic staff; handles the filtration system and other aquatic operating systems with the assistance of the Director of facility maintenance, performs regular safety inspections of pool and equipment to reduce hazards and provide maximum safety.

Also responsible for managing and leading all aspects of a highly competitive Division III water polo program while adhering to the college’s mission, recruiting quality student-athletes and retaining those student-athletes, having academically successful student-athletes, and managing all aspects of a collegiate water polo program. This is a full-time, 12 month position.

Key Responsibilities:
Work within the College’s mission to provide a competitive and positive collegiate athletic experience for student-athletes. Recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes within National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and college guidelines.  Build, develop, and maintain regular contact and relationships with the program’s alumni which include conducting alumni events. Fundraise for the program in conjunction with university and department.  Monitor student-athletes academic progress and study hall programs, ensuring satisfactory progress towards graduation. Coordinate community service efforts for the water polo program.  All necessary administrative responsibilities for the program: budget management, coordinate and supervise assistant coach and supervise home athletics contests.  Other related duties related to the work described herein or assigned by the Executive Director of Athletics and Special Assistant to the President.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and at least three years of coaching collegiate water polo.  Excellent administrative, organizational, and recruiting skills also required. The successful candidate will be expected to understand and comply with applicable laws, college policies, and NCAA regulations. A record of demonstrated trustworthiness, honesty, and reliability are essential to all head coaching positions at the College.  The successful candidate is expected to develop a climate of trust, integrity, and open communication with colleagues and students.  Final appointment is contingent upon the successful completion of a background check.
