BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Bucknell University’s Adrian Touzot (So., Beirut, Lebanon/Brummana), Doruk Ozar (Fr., Istanbul, Turkey/Private Sezin) and head coach John McBride earn Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Tournament and Coach of the Tournament accolades, respectively, to lead the Winter 2021 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Championship All-Tournament Team.
The Bison claimed the MAWPC crown with an 11-3 victory over La Salle University on Sunday, March 7, to claim the league championship and an automatic berth to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men’s Water Polo Championship hosted by the University of Southern California on Thursday, March 18, and Saturday-Sunday, March 20-21, in Los Angeles.
Due to only three teams (Bucknell, George Washington University, La Salle) competing for the MAWPC Championship at Bucknell’s Kinney Natatorium on March 7, a single team is selected based on a vote of the participating head coaches.
Touzot, who made 12 saves in the MAWPC Championship game to claim MVP status, is joined on the team by La Salle goalie Veljko Kotarica (Fr., Zrenjanin, Serbia/Electro Technical “Nikola Tesla”) who turned aside six saves in a 6-4 semifinal defeat of George Washington prior to stopping six shots against Bucknell in the title tilt.
Rookie of the Tournament Ozar, who scored a game-high four goals versus La Salle, is joined by fellow Bison field players Matt Blackwell (Sr., Davis, Calif./Davis) and Andu Vlasceanu (So., Bucharest, Romania/Liceul Teoretic “Nicolae Lorga” Bucuresti) on the All-Tournament team. Blackwell scored twice in the title game, while Vlasceanu set up multiple scoring opportunities for the Bison.
La Salle places three field players on the All-Tournament squad as Callin Chimilar (So., Regina, Sask./Martin Collegiate), Cole Strohson (Sr., Newport Beach, Calif./Corona Del Mar) and Daniel Domotor (Sr., Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Secondary) garner recognition for their efforts over the span of two games.
Domotor scored twice in the semifinal victory over George Washington, while Strohson found the back of the cage once versus the Colonials and twice against the Bison.
