GROVE CITY, Pa. — Senior Savanah Phillips sunk a team-high eight goals and handed out an additional assist to lead the Wittenberg University women’s water polo team in a thrilling 17-15 overtime victory over host Wolverines as part of the Grove City College Invitational.

The Tigers, who now stand at 4-0 against Division III opponents in 2020, also dropped a pair of games versus Division II foes as Wittenberg came up short versus Mercyhurst University, 16-4, and Gannon University, 17-8.

While Phillips paced the Tigers in the extra time victory over the Wolverines, thee additional players added two or more goals in the game, led by freshman Kailey Cordova with three scores. Sophomore Kiersten Heverly and freshman Savannah Morgenroth-Cross also added two goals each against Grove City.  Sophomore goalie Caroline Coleman was solid in goal for the Tigers against Grove City with 12 total saves in the win. Morgenroth-Cross and Cordova also contributed on the defensive end against the Wolverines with five and three steals, respectively.

Morgenroth-Cross also led the Tigers with three goals in the loss against Gannon, while Phillips scored two of Wittenberg’s four goals against Mercyhurst.

Coleman finished the day with 31 total saves over the three matches combined, highlighted by a season-high 13 saves in the loss against Gannon.
