BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Former Bears’ women’s water polo athlete Keira Heggie ’04 is among 18 individuals and one team that will be inducted into the Brown University Athletic Hall of Fame at its 44th Induction Dinner on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at the Rhode Island Convention Center in Providence.

The first women’s water polo athlete to enter the Brown Athletic Hall of Fame, she was a four-year starting goalkeeper.  Heggie led the Bears to a 7-4 victory over the University of Michigan as a freshman en route to the 2001 Eastern Championship.  The 2001 Eastern Championship Most Valuable Player (MVP) for posting 37 saves on 58 shots in three games, she capped off the tournament by anchoring Brown to an 11-10 sudden victory overtime defeat of Princeton University at home in Providence, R.I.

For her championship game performance, she was highlighted in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd.”

A 2001 and 2004 Honorable Mention All-America selection and four-time All-Northern Division selection (2001, 2003, 2004 – First Team; 2002 – Second Team), the Miami native played club with Brown’s current Director of Water Polo Felix Mercado and was a four-time all-conference selection who led the conference in saves three times.
