BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — 171 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) student-athletes earned Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2020 women’s varsity season.
Divided into three teams (Outstanding: 4.0-3.71; Superior: 3.70-3.41; Excellent: 3.40-3.20), the list recognizes athletes who competed and achieved academic excellence in the classroom during the abbreviated 2020 season.
Among Division I institutions, Brown University (five Outstanding-nine Superior-four Excellent) led the league with 18 honorees, while Princeton University (four Outstanding-five Superior-seven Excellent) collected 16 nods.
The University of Michigan (three Outstanding-seven Superior-four Excellent) and Bucknell University (three Outstanding-eight Superior-three Excellent) notched 14 accolades with Harvard University (four Outstanding-six Superior-two Excellent), George Washington University (three Outstanding-five Superior-two Excellent) and Saint Francis University (four Outstanding-two Superior-two Excellent) garnered 12, 10 and eight awards, respectively.
Austin College (five Outstanding-four Superior-three Excellent) led the Division III schools with 12 notices. Connecticut College (four Outstanding-five Superior-one Excellent) and Macalester College (two Outstanding-five Superior-three Excellent) also broke into double-digits with 10 laurels, respectively, while Utica College (one Outstanding-seven Superior-one Excellent) received nine notices.
Carthage College (three Outstanding-four Superior-one Excellent) and Grove City College (two Outstanding-three Superior-three Excellent) both racked up eight honors with Wittenberg University (two Outstanding-three Superior-two Excellent), Washington & Jefferson College (one Outstanding-one Superior-four Excellent), Monmouth College (two Outstanding-one Superior-two Excellent) and Penn State Behrend (two Outstanding-two Superior) completing the recognized programs with seven, six, five and four accolades, respectively.
In addition, 17 schools earned Team Academic honors for recording grade point averages above a 3.0 threshold as Utica (3.58), Brown (3.56), Macalester (3.56), Princeton (3.51), Harvard (3.50), Connecticut (3.45), Bucknell (3.42), Austin (3.38), George Washington (3.37), Monmouth (3.31), Wittenberg (3.29), Carthage (3.27), Grove City (3.25), Saint Francis (3.24), Washington & Jefferson (3.22), Penn State Behrend (3.14) and Michigan (3.12) all shattered the threshold.
