BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Following a vote of the league’s membership to determine date preference following the discovery of a potential pool conflict, the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) announces a date change for the 2019 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship as the University of Pittsburgh will host the 30-game event at Trees Pool on the campus of Pitt in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Friday-Sunday, November 15-17.
Previously slated for Friday-Sunday, November 8-10, the Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship features the champions of the Atlantic, Big Ten, Florida, Great Lakes, Mid-Atlantic, Missouri Valley, New England, New York, Northwest, Pacific Coast, Rocky Mountain, Sierra Pacific, Southeast, Southwest and Texas Divisions battling in a three-day, 30-game tournament with the host Panthers for the National Championship. If Pittsburgh wins the Mid-Atlantic Division, then the runner-up from the group will earn the final spot in the 16-team field.
It marks the second time Pitt will host a National Collegiate Club Championship as the school served as the site for the 2017 Women’s National Collegiate Club Championship. Further, it marks the first time the Mid-Atlantic Division will host the Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship as the group previously passed on hosting the tournament.
