BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of California-Los Angeles remains at No. 1 as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2021 Week 9/November 3 Men’s Varsity National Top 20, Division III Top 10, Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five and Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five Polls.

UCLA, which solely held or shared the No. 1 spot in the Preseason and Week 1-to-3 polls prior to reclaiming the top spot three weeks ago, widens its lead to four points.  Pomona-Pitzer Colleges retains custody of the top spot in the Division III Top 10 ranking, with Fordham University continuing as a unanimous No. 1 in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five.  Princeton University shatters a tie with Harvard University to claim sole possession of the lead spot in the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five ranking.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the MAWPC, NWPC, Golden Coast Conference, Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), SCIAC and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the polls will be compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2021 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 9)

The University of California-Los Angeles stays at No. 1 in the 2021 Week 9/November 3 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 rankings.

UCLA (98 points) – which shared the No. 1 berth in the Week 2 Poll with sole custody of the rating in the Preseason, Week 1 and Week 3 voting prior to returning to the lead position three weeks ago – expands its lead over the runner-up position to four points after leading by three last week.

The University of California (94 points), which rated as the runner-up last week, gains company at No. 2 as the University of Southern California (94 points) pulls even with the Golden Bears. 

Stanford University (85 points), Long Beach State University (80 points), University of the Pacific (74 points) and the University of California-Santa Barbara (71 points) remain at No. 4-to-7, respectively, while San Jose State University (63 points) and the University of California-Davis (59 points) exchange the No. 8 and 9 spots.  Pepperdine University (54 points) once again rounds out the Top 10.

Princeton University (52 points) stays at No. 11 and the University of California-Davis (43 points) climbs up to No. 12.  Harvard University (41 points) slips to No. 13 with the University of California-Irvine (31 points) rising one position to No. 14. 

Loyola Marymount University (26 points) and Fordham University (26 points) stand tied at No. 15 with Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (22 points), California Baptist University (19 points) and the United States Air Force Academy (7 points) rating at No. 17-to-19, respectively.

Santa Clara University (4 points) and Brown University (4 points) wrap-up the Top 20 by tying for the final slot.

2021 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 9)

The Sagehens of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges remain the undisputed top team in the 2021 Week 9/November 3 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

Pomona-Pitzer (100 points), which was ranked at No. 3 in the Preseason balloting, is a unanimous top selection for the ninth week in a row.  California Lutheran University (95 points), Whittier College (90 points) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (85 points) also remain in their previous positions at No. 2-to-4, respectively.

Occidental College (77 points) acquires sole custody of the No. 5 position, while Chapman University (74 points) rises to No. 6 and Johns Hopkins University (70 points) backs up to No. 7.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (64 points), the University of Redlands (62 points) and Austin College (34 points) complete the Top 10.

2021 Men’s Varsity Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Top 5 (Week 9)

Fordham University remains at No. 1 in the 2021 Week 9/November 3 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five Poll.

The Rams (100 points) remain a unanimous No. 1 selection with the United States Naval Academy (94 points), Bucknell University (91 points), George Washington University (85 points) and Wagner College (80 points) following at No. 2-to-5 for another week.

The largest collegiate water polo conference, the MAWPC features 12 teams as Bucknell, Fordham, George Washington, Navy, Johns Hopkins University, Wagner and Mount St. Mary’s University comprise the Eastern Region, with Gannon University, Mercyhurst University, Salem University, Washington & Jefferson College and McKendree University competing in the Western Region.

2021 Men’s Varsity Northeast Water Polo Conference Top 5 (Week 9)

The 2021 Week 9/November 3 Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five Poll experiences several changes as Princeton University shatters a tie with Harvard University to acquire sole possession of the lead position.

The Tigers (99 points) and Crimson (96 points) lead a Top Five in which Princeton is the lone team to retain its previous ranking.

Brown University (90 points) surpasses St. Francis College Brooklyn (85 points) to take over at No. 3, while Iona College (64 points) cracks the Top Five in the final position.

A seven-team conference, the NWPA is comprised of Brown, Connecticut College, Harvard, Iona, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Princeton and St. Francis Brooklyn for the 2021 season.
