BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of California and the University of Redlands continue at No. 1 as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the official 2023 Week 3/September 20 Men’s Varsity National Top 20, Division III Top 10, Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five and Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five Polls.
California, which topped the University of Southern California to claim the 2021 and 2022 NCAA crowns, and Redlands, which captured the 2022 USA Water Polo Division III Collegiate Championship against California Lutheran University, remain on pace to defend their crowns.
Fordham University and Princeton University retain the No. 1 positions in the MAWPC and NWPC Top Five Polls.
Voted on by a panel of coaches, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.
2023 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 3/September 20)
2021 and 2022 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Champion the University of California remains a unanimous No. 1 selection in the 2023 Week 3/September 20 National Men’s Varsity Top 20 Poll.
California (100 points) – which held 99 points in the preseason voting prior to racking up 100 points in the Week 1, 2 and 3 balloting – leads a Top 20 which once again experiences significant changes following the third week of intercollegiate competition.
The University of California-Los Angeles (94 points) and the University of Southern California (90 points) remain at No. 2 and 3, while Pepperdine University (79 points), Princeton University (79 points) and Stanford University (79 points) move into a three-way tie at No. 4.
University of the Pacific (71 points) and the University of California-Davis (57 points) rate at No. 7 and 8 with San Jose State University (56 points) and the University of California-San Diego (56 points) tying at No. 9 to complete the Top 10.
Long Beach State University (55 points), the University of California-Irvine (52 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (43 points) and California Baptist University (34 points) rearrange to stand at No. 11-to-14 with Loyola Marymount University (26 points) and Brown University (26 points) tied at No. 15.
Fordham University (21 points) and Harvard University (14 points) come in at No. 17 and 18, while Santa Clara University (7 points) and the United States Naval Academy (7 points) round out the Top 20 by tying for the No. 19 spot.

The University of Redlands hangs on to the No. 1 position in the 2023 Week 3/September 20 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll
The 2022 USA Water Polo Division III Collegiate Champion, Redlands (98 points) expands its lead over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (96 points) to two points after holding a one-vote margin (98-to-97) last week.
Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (89 points) continues at No. 3, while the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (85 points) supplants Chapman University (78 points) at No 4.
Chapman, California Lutheran University (77 points) and Occidental College (68 points) hold down the No. 5-to-7 berths, respectively, with Johns Hopkins University (63 points) and Augustana College (63 points) tied at No. 8.
The University of La Verne (46 points) completes the Division III Top 10.

Fordham (100 points) – which now rates as a unanimous No. 1 pick – leads a Top Five in which three of the teams acquire new positions.
Bucknell University (91 points) moves up to No. 2 with Wagner College (90 points) and the United States Naval Academy (89 points) just off the mark to take over at No. 3 and 4.
George Washington University (80 points) completes the Top Five.

Two-time defending Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) champion Princeton University remains No. 1 through another seven-day stretch of the 2023 season as the Tigers lead the 2023 Week 3/September 20 NWPC Top Five Poll.
The 2018, 2021 and 2022 NWPC Champion Tigers (100 points) continue as a unanimous top selection as the rankings remain predominantly consistent compared to the Week 2/September 13 voting.
Brown University (92 points) gains company at No. 2 as three-time (2016, 2017, 2019) NWPC Champion Harvard University (92 points) pulls even with the Bears. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (86 points) and Iona University (80 points) remain in their prior positions at No. 4 and 5, respectively.
