BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of California-Los Angeles and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges continue at No 1 in the National Top 20 and Division III Top 10 rankings, respectively, as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the official 2025 Men’s Varsity National Top 20, Division III Top 10, Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Top Five and Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Top Five Polls for Week 7/October 15.

The defending National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Champion, UCLA remains the unanimous pick at No. 1 in the nation, while CMS receives all the No. 1 votes to retain its position as the lead team in the Division III ranks.

Defending MAWPC champion Fordham University remains at No. 1 in the MAWPC Top Five, while Harvard University rettains the top spot in the NWPC Top Five.

Voted on by a panel of coaches, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during each week of the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2025 Men’s Varsity National Top 20 (Week 7/October 15)

2024 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Champion the University of California-Los Angeles remains on top of the collegiate water polo mountain as the Bruins continue as a unanimous top selection in the Week 7/October 15 2025 National Men’s Varsity Top 20 Poll.

The Top Five remains unchanged as UCLA (100 points), the University of California (95 points), the University of Southern California (90 points), Stanford University (85 points) and Fordham University (80 points) do not budge from their positions.

The University of California-Davis (67 points) jumps three spots to take over at No. 6 and the University of California-San Diego (65 points) slides back to No. 7 while San Jose State University (59 points) and Pepperdine University (59 points) enter into a tie at No. 8.

The Top 10 is 12 teams this week as the trio of Long Beach State University (53 points), Loyola Marymount University (53 points) and the University of California-Santa Barbara (53 points) share the final spot in the upper half of the Top 20.

California Baptist University (45 points) and University of the Pacific (31 points) ascend to No. 13 and 14, Princeton University (30 points) slips to No. 15, the University of California-Irvine (25 points) inches up to No. 16 and Santa Clara University (24 points) assumes the No. 17 berth.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (23 points), Harvard University (9 points) and George Washington University (4 points) complete the Top 20.

2025 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 7/October 15)

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges stays at No. 1 in the Week 7/October 15 Men’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The first three positions in the Top 10 remain unchanged as CMS (100 points), Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (95 points) and Johns Hopkins University (90 points) hang on for another week.

The University of Redlands (80 points) – which was ranked at No. 4 last week – gains company in the position as previously No. 5 Chapman University (80 points) pulls even with the Bulldogs.  

California Lutheran University (74 points) and Whittier College (71 points) retain their prior status at No. 6 and 7, while the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (66 points) improves two positions to No. 8.   The University of La Verne (57 points) and Augustana College (50 points) complete the Top 10.

2025 Men’s Varsity Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Top 5 (Week 7/October 15)

Four-time (2021, 2022, 2023, 2024) Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC) Champion Fordham University continues at No. 1 in the Week 7/October 15 MAWPC Top Five Poll.

A unanimous No. 1 selection, the Rams (100 points) hold a five-point margin compared to new runner-up the United States Naval Academy (95 points) as the Midshipmen drop anchor at No. 2 after holding down the No. 3 spot a week ago.

George Washington University (85 points), Bucknell University (85 points) and Wagner College (85 points) round out the Top Five via a three-way tie for the No. 3 berth.

Three-time (2016, 2017, 2019) Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Champion Harvard University remains a unanimous No. 1 selection in the Week 7/October 15 NWPC Top Five Poll.

Harvard (100 points) – which replaced five-time (2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024) NWPC champion Princeton University (95 points) at No. 1 last week – leads a Top Five which experiences no changes with Iona University (88 points), Brown University (87 points) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (80 points) preserving their prior positions at No. 3-to-5.
