BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) 2020 Women’s Scholar-Athlete Team expands to 372 athletes as the league releases an updated list.

The list expands by 10 athletes from the previous total of 362.

Previously named the All-Academic Team, the program honors student-athletes who have achieved grade point averages of 3.2 or higher and competed during the COVID-19 abbreviated 2020 women’s season.

Overall, 230 athletes were honored with Outstanding (3.71-4.0) recognition, while 105 earned Superior (3.41-3.7) and 37 were recognized with Excellent (3.2-3.4) accolades.

The total marks a dramatic rise from the 2019 total of 152 honorees, the 2018 list of 198 and the 2017 compilation of 311.

To be selected, student-athletes must be active participants on a team and a full-time student at the institution which nominated them. Active participation includes the requirement to have played in at least one league game during the season. Freshmen through graduate students are eligible for the award.

Nominees must achieve a 3.2 cumulative Grade Point Average or higher based on the most recent grades.

A total of 543 student-athletes earned recognition during the 2020 season as 171 varsity players (50 Outstanding, 77 Superior, 44 Excellent) also received laurels from the league.
