BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Stanford University remains the No. 1 team in the nation as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the Week 5/February 19 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls for the 2020 season.
California Lutheran University (Division III), the University of Michigan (CWPA Top Five) and Macalester College (CWPA Division III Top Five) also maintain their prior spots in the lead of their respective rankings.
Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.
2020 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 5)
Defending National Champion Stanford University continues to rule the world of women’s collegiate water polo as the Cardinal maintain the lead position in the Week 5/February 19 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.
Stanford (99 points) widens its lead over runner-up the University of California-Los Angeles (95 points) to four-points after holding a narrow two-point advantage seven days ago. The University of Hawaii (91 points), which was tied with the University of Southern California (90 points) at No. 3 last week, pulls ahead of the Trojans by a single point to acquire sole possession of third place.
USC drops to No. 4 with Arizona State University (84 points), the University of California-Irvine (79 points), the University of California (76 points), the University of California-San Diego (73 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (66 points) and the University of Michigan (65 points) hanging on at No. 5-to-10, respectively.
Fresno State University (57 points) and Long Beach State University (56 points) trade the No. 11 and 12 berths with San Jose State University (54 points), Indiana University (45 points) and the University of California-Davis (44 points) claiming the No. 13-to-15 spots.
Loyola Marymount University (40 points), Harvard University (34 points), Wagner College (29 points), Princeton University and California State University-Northridge (24 points) reconfigure to No. 16-to-20, respectively.
University of the Pacific (23 points), San Diego State University (18 points), Bucknell University (13 points), Marist College (8 points) and California Baptist University (3 points) complete the Top 25 at No. 21-to-25.

Cal Lutheran (99 points), Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (96 points), Whittier College (88 points), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (86 points), the University of La Verne (79 points) hold down the No. 1-to-5 positions.
The University of Redlands (75 points), Macalester College (63 points), Chapman University (58 points), Austin College (50 points) and Occidental College (47 points) complete the Top 10.

Macalester College holds the narrowest of leads over Austin College as the Scots maintain the No. 1 position in the Week 5/February 19 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Top Five Poll by a single point.
Macalester (97 points), which was tied with Austin (97 points) for the top spot in the Week 1 and 3 voting, stands at No. 1 by itself for the fourth time after previously achieving the feat in the preseason, Week 2 and Week 4 polls.
Monmouth College (92 points) and Carthage College (85 points) exchange the No. 3 and 4 positions with Grove City College (48 points) breaking into the Top Five by claiming the final position.
