INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Men’s and Women’s Water Polo Rules Subcommittee is requesting applications from interested individuals to serve as the NCAA Water Polo Secretary-Rules Editor.
The secretary-rules editor is the national interpreter for NCAA water polo rules issue throughout the year, working with the NCAA Men’s and Women’s Water Polo Rules Subcommittee and the national coordinator of officials. The new Secretary-Rules Editor will shadow the current Secretary-Rules Editor during the final ten months of his term (October 15, 2020 – Augusut 31, 2021). This position is an eight-year term. The official term will begin September 1, 2021. A modest stipend is paid during the official term.
Reports to: NCAA Men’s and Women’s Water Polo Rules Subcommittee and NCAA playing rules staff liaison.

Duties, Requirements and Responsibilities:
a. Record rules changes adopted by the subcommittee and update the rules manuscript accordingly;
b. Adhere to publishing deadlines in submitting updated or new material for publications;
c. Ensure the technical accuracy of the rules in submitting them for publication and in proofreading the corrected version;
d. Facilitate production of finished artwork of diagrams or equipment that the committee wishes to include in the published rules;
e. Act as the official interpreter of the rules between meetings of the subcommittee;
f. Copy the NCAA staff liaison to the rules committee on rules interpretation given by electronic mail;
g. Assist in development of the rules survey to be sent to coaches, referees and conference commissioners;
h. Assist the national coordinator of officials with annual rules clinic presentations, online test and a rules video;
i. Develop regular rules updates, points of emphasis, rules interpretations and clarifications to be posted on the Center Circle website on the ArbiterSports platform;
j. Attend the NCAA Men’s Water Polo Championship and the NCAA Women’s Water Polo Championship as the official rules interpreter of the committees and perform duties as assigned (that is, supervise the head scorer’s table).
k. Report to the subcommittee at its annual meeting key issues and interpretations given throughout the year; and
l. Other duties as assigned by NCAA staff liaison and/or the subcommittee. chair direct; and
m. Shall not be an active NCAA coach or official.
Preferred Qualifications and Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (essential).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (essential).
- Ability to relate effectively with officials and coaches on a national level (essential).
- Extensive knowledge of NCAA water polo rules and their relationship to officiating mechanics and techniques (essential).
- Strong administrative and organizational skills (essential).
- Ability to use email as a means of correspondence (essential).
- Ability to use computer technology as a means of education (essential).
- Experience in officiating or coaching at the collegiate level (preferred).
- Extensive knowledge of national (U.S. Water Polo) and international (FINA) competition rules (preferred).
- Cannot be an active NCAA coach or official (essential).
