WASHINGTON, Pa. — The Connecticut College men’s water polo team concluded a weekend of Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC)-West Region play at Washington & Jefferson College by splitting a pair of matches on the final day of competition. The Camels first defeated Monmouth College, 16-13, before being edged by Salem International University, 20-18.

Early in the day, the Camels rallied from behind to beat Monmouth.

After Dylan Pinckert (Long Beach, Calif.) knotted the score at 6-6 heading into halftime, Connecticut College carried that momentum into the second half by scoring five more unanswered to take an 11-6 lead and pull away.

Stephan Cress (Rockford, Mich.) scored a team-leading six goals, which included finding the back of the net twice during the hot stretch in the third quarter, to lead the way for the Camels. Smith scored four times to help pace the offense.

The Camels’ final match of the tournament against Salem International was a back-and-forth battle which featured seven ties and five exchanges of the lead. Connecticut College moved ahead by a 13-12 score when senior Jake Pescatore (New Haven, Conn.) found the back of the net in the final minute of the third quarter, but the Tigers scored twice before the end of the frame and never trailed the rest of the way.

Seven players found the back of the net for the Camels in the setback. Sophomore Rahul Gill (Bethesda, Md.) and Cress most notably had four goals apiece.
