BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2018 Women’s Varsity Week 16/May 2 National Top 25, Division III Top 10 and CWPA Top 10 Polls.

The top team in the nation remain unchanged as the University of Southern California (National Top 25) retains the top spot, while Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Division III Top 10) hangs on in the final Division III Poll and CWPA Champion the University of Michigan (CWPA Top 10) wraps-up the league season in the premier position among institutions East of Mesa.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2018 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 16)

The University of Southern California remains No. 1 in the the Week 16/May 2 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Champion Trojans (100 points) lead a Top 25 in which the results of the league championship tournaments had a dramatic impact upon the positioning of the programs.

Stanford University  (96 points), the University of California (92 points) and the University of California-Los Angeles (88 points) remain at No. 2-to-4, respectively, behind USC, while the duo of Arizona State University (82 points) and the University of the Pacific (78 points) both move up one place to take over at No. 5 and 6.

The University of Hawaii (76 points) slips to No. 7, while the University of California-Irvine (74 points) and the University of Michigan (71 points) ascend to assume the No. 8 and 9 spots and drop the University of California-Davis (60 points) back to No. 10.

Princeton University (57 points) comes in at No. 11 with the University of California-San Diego (54 points) once again rating at No. 12. Hartwick College (50 points) and Long Beach State University (50 points) are now tied at No. 13.

Indiana University (45 points) and Loyola Marymount University (43 points) back-up to No. 15 and 16 to rate ahead of Wagner College (36 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (35 points), San Jose State University (23 points) and San Diego State University (22 points) who complete the Top 20 by rating at No. 17-to-20, respectively.

California State University-Northridge (20 points), Bucknell University (15 points), Marist College (10 points) and California Baptist University (7 points) realign to stand at No. 21-to-24, while the duo of Brown University (6 points) and Harvard University (6 points) complete the Top 25 in a tie for the final berth.

2018 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 16/Final)

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges conclude the year as the top team in Division III as the Sagehens again rank at No. 1 in the Week 16/May 2/Final Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

The Sagehens (100 points) lead a Division III Top 10 which experiences minor changes for the third week in a row.

California Lutheran University (95 points) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (90 points) stay at No. 2 and 3 behind Pomona-Pitzer, while Chapman University (83 points) edges in front of Whittier College (79 points) after the two were tied at No. 4 last week.

The University of La Verne (76 points), the University of Redlands (67 points), Macalester College (63 points), Occidental College (61 points) and Connecticut College (50 points) remain at No. 6-to-10 and conclude the final Top 10 of the season.

2018 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 10 (Week 16/Final)

In the wake of the 2018 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship, league titlist the University of Michigan concludes the year at No. 1 in the Week 16/May 2/Final Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Top 10 Poll.

Michigan (100 points), which fell out of rating as the No. 1 team in the CWPA Top 10 Poll three weeks ago due to an 8-7 sudden death overtime loss to Princeton University, returns to the top spot via an 11-8 title game victory over the Tigers at Bucknell University‘s Kinney Natorium on Sunday, April 29. 

Princeton (93 points) drops down to No. 2 as the final Top 10 Poll reflects the order of finish at the CWPA Championship.

Hartwick College (92 points), Indiana University (85 points), Bucknell (80 points), Brown University (75 points), Harvard University (70 points), George Washington University (65 points), Saint Francis University (59 points) and Macalester College (56 points) complete the final CWPA Top 10 for the 2018 season.
