BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — 12 athletes from Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) administered conferences (Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference, Northeast Water Polo Conference) are among 57 student-athletes to earn recognition on the 2018 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Men’s Division I All-America Team.
Four schools from both the NWPC and MAWPC are represented on the list as a total of 21 schools garnered at least one position on the ACWPC Division I All-America squad.
Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC):
Bucknell University and 2018 MAWPC Champion George Washington University lead the way as both the Bison and Colonials pick-up a pair of All-America nods from the ACWPC.
For Bucknell, Rade Joksimovic (Jr., Novi Sad, Serbia/Gimnazija Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj) earns the highest award for any Division I men’s water polo player outside California as he collects Second Team laurels. The award marks the third in Joksimovic’s three-year tenure in Lewisburg, Pa., as he previously earned Third Team (2016) and Honorable Mention (2017) notice in his first two seasons as a Bison. He is joined on the All-America squad by classmate Logan Schofield (Jr., Maumee, Ohio/St. Francis De Sales) who garners his first national laurel with Honorable Mention recognition.
2017 and 2018 MAWPC Champion George Washington collects a pair of Honorable Mention notices as Atakan Destici (Jr., Istanbul, Turkey/Istek Acibadem Anatolian) and Andrew Mavis (Jr., Princeton, N.J./The Pennington School) both take home their second nods from the ACWPC after recording Honorable Mention notice in 2016 and 2017, respectively.
Fordham University’s Jake Miller-Tolt (Jr., Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa) and Wagner College’s Jasmin Kolasinac (So., Belgrade, Serbia/King’s College) both pick-up their first All-America awards with Honorable Mention notice.
Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC):
Brown University and Harvard University both notch pairs of awards, while Iona College and 2018 Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Champion Princeton University account for the NWPC’s four All-America nods.
Brown’s Travis Bouscaren (Sr., Cambridge, Mass./Philips Andover Academy) and Armen Deirmenjian (Jr., Beverly Hills, Calif./Loyola) both earn their inaugural All-America awards with Honorable Mention status, while Harvard’s Austin Sechrest (Jr., Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley) and Dennis Blyashov (So., Carlsbad, Calif./Cathedral Catholic) both take their second All-America laurels after taking home Honorable Mention and Third Team accolades, respectively, in 2017.
Sechrest and Blyashov join Princeton’s Matt Payne (Sr., Laguna Beach, Calif./Mater Dei) as two-time All-America selections as the Tiger earns his second Honorable Mention nod after previously earning acknowledgement in 2016.
Iona College’s Patrick Hudak (So., Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) completes the list of NWPC All-America honorees as he earns a spot on the Honorable Mention list.
