ERIE, Pa. — Gannon University’s Brett Rehrer (Sr., Chino Hills, Calif./Chino Hills) picked up 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Division II All-District 2 Men’s At-Large Team honors as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-District® Men’s and Women’s At-Large Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. Student-athletes must have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30 and be a starter or contributor to be considered for Academic All-District and All-American accolades.
The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program separately recognizes outstanding student-athletes in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team (if applicable) Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in June.
Division II District 2 is made up of schools in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, Mountain East Conference and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, as well as Atlantic Region independents.
Rehrer was named the 2018 Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference-West Region (MAWPC) Most Valuable Player after leading the Golden Knights to a 19-0 start to the season and 20-1 overall record. The senior closed the season second in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in both saves (284) and saves per game (12.91). He was third in the nation in assists per game (2.73), sixth in steals per game (2.23) and ninth in save percentage (66.0).
The goalie led the MAWPC-West in goals against average (8.40), assists, saves, save percentage and saves per game. He set Gannon career records in saves (1,088) and assists (156).
A sports marketing major, Rehrer has put together a 3.63 cumulative GPA.
Rehrer is one of just 11 members of the All-District team in the competitive At-Large division, which includes nominees in the sports of lacrosse, rifle, skiing, fencing, swimming and diving, tennis, golf, volleyball, gymnastics, water polo, ice hockey and wrestling. He moves on to the Academic All-American ballot, with winners announced on June 20.
He is one of two men’s water polo players to earn Academic All-District honors joining Andrea DiNardi of the University of the Pacific who collected Division I District 8 status.
Overall, a total of six water polo players were recognized by CoSIDA as Lucille Moran (Sr., Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) of Macalester College took Division III District 6 accolades with Maddie Kauahi of Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Victoria Rose Meek of California Lutheran University picking up Division III District 8 honors. Makenzie Fischer of Stanford University snagged Division I District 8 status.
