BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Former United States Naval Academy men’s water polo player and Navy SEAL Dr. Daniel J. Valaik, M.D., is currently an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacements at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Md.. As an assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at JHU, Dr. Valaik has years of expertise in joint preservation surgeries of the hip and knee as well as total joint replacement following a long tenure serving his country.
Dr. Valaik graduated with honors from the United States Naval Academy in 1983 and then served as a Navy SEAL for six years. He received his M.D. at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1993, completed a residency in orthopaedics at the National Naval Medical Center in 2002 and did a fellowship in adult reconstruction at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine (2002-2003).
After 26 years of service in the U.S. Navy, hip and knee specialist Dr. Valaik returned to Johns Hopkins. His last position in the military was serving as the chief of the Orthopaedic Service at Walter Reed and the National Naval Medical Center.
Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery since 2005, Dr. Valaik is a past president of the Society of Military Orthopaedic Surgeons, and is a member the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and the Society of Medical Consultants to the Armed Forces. He is also an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Fellow.
