BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The University of Southern California continues as the No. 1 team in the nation as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the Week 8/March 11 Women’s Varsity National Top 25, Division III Top 10, CWPA Top Five and CWPA Division III Top Five Polls for the 2020 season.

California Lutheran University (Division III) and the University of Michigan (CWPA Top Five) continue to lead their respective rankings, while Austin College surpasses Macalester College to take over at No. 1 in the CWPA Division III Top Five.

Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF), the Golden Coast Conference, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the polls are compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.

2020 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 8)

The University of Southern California marches on as the Trojans remain at No. 1 in the Week 8/March 11 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.

USC (100 points), which once again rates as a unanimous No. 1 selection, holds down the lead position for the third week in a row.  USC previously stood at No. 1 in the Preseason, Week 1, Week 2 and Week 3 polls prior to snapping a two-week run by Stanford University in the Week 4 and 5 polls.

Stanford (94 points) and the University of California-Los Angeles (94 points) continue in a tie at No. 2, while the University of Hawaii (88 points), the University of California-Irvine (84 points), Arizona State University (80 points) and the University of Michigan (76 points) persist at No. 4-to-7, respectively.

The University of California-Santa Barbara (70 points) inches ahead of the University of California (70 points) to acquire sole custody of the No. 8 slot, while Fresno State University (62 points) breaks into the upper echelon of the Top 10 in the final position.

The University of California-San Diego (58 points) stays at No. 11 with Loyola Marymount University (53 points) and Long Beach State University (53 points) tying at No. 12.  San Jose State University (48 points), Indiana University (46 points), San Diego State University (41 points), Wagner College (32 points), the University of California-Davis (31 points), California State University-Northridge (26 points) and Princeton University (25 points) rearrange to rate at No. 14-to-20, respectively.

Harvard University (20 points), University of the Pacific (16 points), Bucknell University (13 points) and Marist College (10 points) stand at No. 21-to-24 with the pair of Brown University (4 points) and California Baptist University (4 points) completing the Top 25 in a tie for the concluding spot.

2020 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 (Week 8)

California Lutheran University remains the lead team in the Week 8/March 11 Women’s Varsity Division III Top 10 Poll.

Cal Lutheran (99 points), Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (96 points), Whittier College (90 points), Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (83 points), the University of La Verne (78 points) and Chapman University (74 points) stick at No. 1-to-6 with Austin College (69 points) rising to No. 7.

The Universty of Redlands (68 points), Occidental College (59 points) and Macalester College (48 points) complete the Top 10.

2020 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Top 5 (Week 8)

Defending Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Champion the University of Michigan remains the top team in the Week 8/March 11 Women’s Varsity CWPA Top Five Poll.

Michigan (100 points) retains its previous status as a unanimous No. 1 selection as the Wolverines lead a Top Five which experiences once change from the Week 7 voting. 

Princeton University (94 points) surpasses Harvard University (89 points) to take over at No. 2, while Bucknell University (85 points) and Brown University (82 points) continue at No. 4 and 5 for another week.

2020 Women’s Varsity Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III Top 10 (Week 8)

In the wake of a 13-8 defeat of three-time defending Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III Champion Macalester College, Austin College takes over the top spot in the Week 8/March 11 CWPA Division III Top Five Poll.

Austin, which was tied with Macalester for the top spot in the Week 1, 3 and 6 voting with the Scots holding sole possession of the lead position in the Preseason, Week 2, Week 4, Week 5 and Week 7 balloting, becomes a unanimous top choice with 100 points.  Macalester (95 points) drops back to No. 2 with Carthage College (88 points) and Wittenberg University (52 points) exchanging the No. 3 and 4 slots.

Monmouth College (49 points) competes the Top Five by holding onto the final position.
