STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Wagner College will add five athletes to its men’s water polo roster for the 2020 season.
A pair of junior college transfers lead the quintet as Brochton Troutman (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly/Riverside CC) and Cooper Lynch (San Diego, Calif./University City/San Diego Mesa) join the Seahawks.
A 2018 graduate of University City in San Diego, Lynch spent the last two season competing for the San Diego Mesa College Olympians. In his two-year junior college career, he tallied 101 goals, finding the back of the cage in 44 of his 50 career games, while adding 37 steals and drawing 40 exclusions. He garnered First-Team All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) in his final season with the Olympians prior to heading East to Staten Island.
A 2017 graduate from Riverside Poly in Riverside, Troutman competed for four seasons on the school’s water polo team under head coach Mike Cardey and was named a Scholar Athlete all four seasons for Bears. A competitor for the Riverside Water Polo Club, he played two seasons at Riverside Community College and recorded 14 goals and eight assists in 35 games to go along 2019 All-Orange Empire Conference (OEC) Honorable Mention honors.
Freshmen Zsombor Gyemant (Budapest, Hungary/Ady Endre), Frankie Pannell (Pearland, Texas/Pearland) and Gabriel Sastre (Nassau, Bahamas/Blake Academy) also add to the Wagner roster.
Gyemant competed for clubs teams Budapesti VSC (BVSC) and SoCal Water Polo Club in Hungary. He helped lead BVSC to multiple top finishes throughout the Hungarian Youth Leagues, including a 2018 U18 first place finish, as well as two second place finishes with the U14 team in 2016 and U16 team in 2018. Further, he aided SoCal Water Polo to a U16 first place finish in the 2018 Junior Olympics in San Jose, Calif.
Pannell recorded 243 goals, 115 steals and 55 blocks in three seasons with the Pearland Oilers. He garnered First Team All-Region along with team Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Offensive MVP notice in all three seasons, as well as being named District MVP his last two seasons. Away from high school, he competed for West Houston Water Polo Club.
The head boy of the Blake Academy graduating class, Sastre was a member of the Mantas Swim and Water Polo Club and active member of the Bahamian National Water Polo youth system. A member of the Bahamian U16 national team that won three consecutive Caribbean Free Trade Association (CARIFTA) Water Polo gold medals, as well as a member of three consecutive Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation (CCCAN) Water Polo teams, he acted as team captain for multiple youth Bahamian teams, while most recently captaining the Bahamas’ first Junior Pan American Championships water polo team, tallying 35 goals.
