PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The No. 18-ranked Brown University men’s water polo team went 2-1 in its first day of competition at the Bruno Classic. The Bears fell to Santa Clara University, 14-11, to start the day, but rebounded with defeats of Austin College, 15-13, and Wagner College, 15-12.
In the first game against Santa Clara, the Bears trailed 12-3 with 3:48 remaining the the third quarter. From there on out, Brown outscored Santa Clara 8-2, but it was too little too late as the clock expired on the Bears’ comeback attempt.
In the second game versu Austin, Brown used a two-goal cushion in the first quarter to hold off the Kangaroos as both sides were even throughout the last three frames. Cole Atwell led the team with five goals, while Connor Enright had three and Ben Krishon posted a pair.
In the third and final game of the day for the Bears, Brown pulled out to an 8-5 lead by halftime and cruised to a 15-12 victory over Wagner. Evan Moore had three goals in the game with Andrew Penner and Kirshon both accounting for pairs.
