LEWISBURG, Pa. — Bucknell University men’s and women’s water polo head coach John McBride has been selected to join the coaching staff for the United States Men’s Water Polo senior squad ahead of its July schedule.
McBride, who owns program records for both combined wins and individual wins for the women’s team at Bucknell, will serve as an assistant coach for the national squad, which is coming off a sixth-place finish at the 2022 FINA World Championship in Budapest, Hungary.
The men’s squad gets their July schedule underway with a three-game set against Italy in California. The team will take on II Settebello, who finished second at the World Championships, in Irvine on July 12. After a three-day break, the team then heads north to Stanford and Santa Clara for two more games on July 15 and 16, respectively. All three games against Italy, the first home games for Team USA since 2019, will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
The following week, the team will travel to Strasbourg, France for a potential stretch of six games in six days as a part of the FINA World League Super Final. The U.S. opens up group play against homestanding France on Friday, July 22, before taking on Canada on the 23rd.
A rematch with Italy awaits to round out group play on July 24, with the final three games of the tournament scheduled from July 25-27.
