PROVIDENCE, R.I. — No. 18-ranked Brown University men’s water polo collected Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) home wins by beating Long Island University, 18-9, and Iona University, 15-10, at the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center.
Facing Long Island, Brown was led by five goals from Ilias Stothart and Thomas Hoffmeister. Jaxson Tierney and Máté Tymcyna each had three goals in the victory.
The Bears jumped on LIU early by scoring eight goals in the first quarter to take an 8-1 lead. Stothart, Tymcyna and Tierney all scored twice in the first eight minutes and Hoffmeister and Gabe Chang both scored once.
Brown outscored Long Island 8-6 over the next two quarters and added two more goals in the fourth quarter to overwhelm the Sharks.
Clashing with Iona, Chang finished the night with a game-high five goals. Tierney and Goran Narancic both chipped in three goals.
Brown trailed 2-1 in the first before Chang netted a marker and Narancic scored twice, all under two minutes, to give the Bears a 4-2 lead. Chang added two more goals in the second quarter as Brown acquired a 7-6 lead entering halftime.
The Bears stretched their lead to two after three quarters as Tierney scored twice. Brown dominated in the fourth, outscoring Iona 4-1 in the final frame.
