BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Princeton University athlete Jovana Sekulic and alumna/goalkeeper Ashleigh Johnson helped the United States stop Italy, 10-3, in the Americans’ third game of Group B competition at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
Team USA – which downed Greece by a 15-6 score on Saturday, July 27, before suffering a 13-11 setback against Spain on Monday, July 29 – got back on track versus the Italians by building leads of 3-1, 6-2 and 8-2 at the conclusion of the first, second and third quarters, respectively, in picking up another win.
Sekulic shot zero-for-one on man-up chances in 12:16 of playing time to raise her statistics to three goals on six shots with a steal against Greece, Spain and Italy.
Johnson made nine saves on 12 shots (four-for-five action shots/two-for-two center shots/two-for-three man-up/one-for-one six meters/zero-for-one counter attack) with a pair of rebounds in stopping Italy. Overall, she has made 32 saves with 20 goals allowed on 52 shots with a pair of steals and a goal in 89:14 of time during the Americans’ three games.
Team USA will return to the water on Friday, August 2, against host France in both teams’ final game of Group B.
