NEW ROCHELLE/BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Head coach Ted Minnis picked up career victories No. 300 and 301 as Harvard University opened Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) competition with victories at Iona University, 21-11, and Long Island University, 20-13.
The first coach in program history to reach 300 career wins, Minnis led Harvard to a 2-0 start in conference action as the Crimson extended its winning streak to 24 games versus Iona. Netting 20-plus goals for the second time this season, Harvard jumped out to a 6-2 lead in Saturday morning’s matchup and never looked back.
Dominant on the man advantage, the Crimson converted seven of nine power plays to get by the Gaels as Jack Burghardt, Dean Strauser and Lukas Peabody powered the offense by combining for 13 goals in the morning contest.
Vilas Sogaard-Srikrishnan recorded one goal and four assists in the victory, while Mason Hunt contributed a goal and two assists.
Connor Kim tallied six points with two goals and four assists to accompany a pair of markers from Jake Tsotadze.
Tanner Furtak and Oliver Price split time in net, with Furtak making seven saves and Price stopping three.
Harvard pulled away late in its second game of the day at LIU by exploiting a six-goal fourth quarter to secure the win over the Sharks. Brothers Emil and Vilas Sogaard-Srikrishanan combined for five goals across the two games on the day.
Connor Kim scored twice against Long Island with Tyler Hogan added two fourth-quarter goals. Jack Burghardt netted a hat trick in the win.
