SHERMAN, Texas — Austin College, a selective admission, residential, liberal arts and sciences institution located in Sherman, Texas, north of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, seeks a person with energy, creativity, and water polo coaching skills to begin its National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III men’s and women’s water polo program.
The position is a full time, 10-month appointment reporting directly to the Director of Athletics.
Candidates must demonstrate commitment to continue the College’s tradition of balancing a rigorous academic program with the desire to achieve athletic excellence.
The head coach will be responsible for directing all aspects of the water polo program, including, but not limited to, recruitment of qualified student-athletes reflecting the undergraduate profile, preparing for competition, and supervision of staff. Additional duties may include teaching in the Exercise & Sport Science department or supporting an auxiliary support area of the department.
The finalist will be expected to support the academic and athletic areas of the College. Salary and benefits commensurate with experience and credentials. Applications will be accepted until filled. Review will begin immediately.

Bachelor’s degree required in physical education or related field, master’s degree preferred. Five years of related coaching/playing experience are required. Demonstrated understanding of the philosophy of a residential liberal arts institution and NCAA Division III desired. Experience as a student-athlete or coach at a NCAA Division III, residential liberal arts and sciences institution beneficial.
Employment Type: 1.0 FTE (Salary: $30,000-$40,000 per NCAA.org)
Work Schedule: M-F; 8:30am – 5:00pm; 10 Month Contract; Evening and Weekends as Sports Schedules & Recruiting Dictates. August 1 through May 31.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Provides overall leadership and management for the intercollegiate men’s and women’s water polo program, additional responsibility within department. (Teaching, Facilities team)
Desired Knowledge: Experience within the NCAA, Division III and residential liberal arts.
