BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Recent Bucknell University graduate Boati Motau (Johannesburg, South Africa/Roedean School South Africa) and the Republic of South Africa were unable to overcome Croatia in a 16-6 loss at the 2025 World Aquatics Championship in Singapore, Republic of Singapore.  Due to the defeat, South Africa will compete in the 15th/16th Place game against Singapore at 9:00 a.m. local time on Saturday, July 19, and 9:00 p.m Eastern/6:00 p.m. Pacific on Friday, July 18.

A member of South Africa’s squad at the 2020/2021 Olympics in Tokyo, Motau converted on one-of-two scoring chances (one-for-one action shots/zero-for-one man-up), grabbed a steal and field blocked a shot in 14:12 of playing time.  

The Croatians pulled away in the first quarter to acquire a 7-2 lead prior to South Africa chipping its deficit down to 9-5 entering halftime.  However, Croatia overwhelmed South Africa in the second half via 2-0 and 5-1 scoring advantages in the third and fourth quarters, respectively.
