ERIE, Pa. — Emily Konishi finished with four goals and four assists to lead the Bucknell University women’s water polo team to a 15-8 victory over the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) on the second day of matches at the Mercyhurst University Invitational.
Bucknell is unbeaten when scoring in double-figures this season.
Marta Considine finished with four goals of her own along with four steals, while Tegan Stanbach and Colleen Barron recorded two goals and two assists apiece.
The Bison drew 10 ejections in the contest, including a team-high five from Shyla Lintz. Bucknell scored on five of eight six-on-five opportunities and connected on both of its penalty shots.
The two teams traded goals early in the first period to knot the contest 3-3. Bucknell ended the quarter with three straight scores to hold a 6-3 advantage. In the second quarter, the Bison outscored the Keydets 3-1 to take a 9-4 lead into halftime.
Bucknell played strong defense in the third quarter, limiting VMI to just one score while finding the back of the net four times en route to the 15-8 win.
Manuela Herrera posted 12 saves in the victory.
