Bucknell University-vs.Saint Francis Unviersity Scoresheet (PDF)

LEWISBURG, Pa. — Ally Furano (Fr., Stamford, Conn./The Ursuline School) scored four goals to notch Player of the Game notice as the host Bison of Bucknell University stopped Saint Francis University, 16-4, on the second day of the 2018 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship at Kinney Natatorium.

The Bison (14-18, 3-5 CWPA) advance to a 7:30 p.m. showdown this evening against No. 23-ranked Harvard University with a spot in the tournament’s Fifth Place game at stake.  Bucknell stands at 1-0 against the Crimson in 2018 as the Bison knocked off Harvard by a 9-8 count on April 14 at Princeton University.

In a dominating performance from opening whistle to closing horn, Bucknell outscored the Red Flash (12-18, 0-8 CWPA) by counts of 4-1, 4-2, 5-0 and 3-1 over the span of the first, second, third and fourth quarters, respectively, to keep their fellow Keystone State (Pennsylvania) institution in check and notch its fourth victory of the year against Saint Francis.  The Bison previously topped the Red Flash 13-8 (February 10 at Bucknell), 15-9 (March 25 at Saint Francis) and 10-3 (April 8 at Harvard University).

For the Bison, Shyla Lintz (Sr., Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) joined Furano in posting hat-tricks, while Sarah Mooney (Jr., Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont), Colleen Barron (Sr., Darien, Ill./Fenwick) and Kali Hyham (Fr., Garden Grove, Calif./Huntington Beach) notched pairs of markers. Eliza Romeyn (Jr., Durham, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall), Emily Konishi (Jr., Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) and Marta Considine (Sr., Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) chipped in solo strikes.

Between the pipes, Manuela Herrera (Sr., Windermere, Fla./Olympia) earned the win with five saves prior to Hayley Pogue (So., San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) coming in to turn aside two shots in the game’s closing minutes.

Marialena Seletopoulou (Fr., Glyfada, Athens, Greece/Yannopoulos School) accounted for 3/4th of the Red Flash’s offense as she netted a hat-trick to accompany a single goal by Kelly Fehr (So., Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy).  Goalie Kate Wilke (So., Burbank, Calif./Burroughs) took the loss with nine saves.

The defeat drops SFU into a 6:00 p.m. terminal game against George Washington University.  A victory places the Red Flash into the Seventh Place game at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 29, against the victor of the Bucknell-Harvard clash.  However, a loss will conclude Saint Francis’ 2018 season as the team will finish Ninth in the nine-team championship field.

Overall, Saint Francis stands at 0-3 against the Colonials in 2018 with losses on February 11 (21-13 L at Bucknell), March 24 (15-11 L at Saint Francis) and April 8 (10-1 L at Harvard).  However, the Red Flash is 1-0 all-time against GW at the CWPA Championship as the squad dropped the Colonials 11-10 in the opening round of the 2017 event at Indiana University.
