PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Bucknell University finished the Harvard Invitational with a 15-6 victory over the University of California-Merced at Brown University’s Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center. The Bison overcame a sluggish first quarter to handle their Californian foe behind three goals from Gwen Kallmeyer.
The Bobcats led 2-1 in the first quarter before Addison Wedding scored back-to-back goals to put the Bison in front to stay.
Wedding’s two goals led to an extended 5-0 run. Bella Schraa, Kallmeyer and Lin Naraoka added to the run. UC-Merced answered once but tallies by Regan Coon and Britta Coultas extinguished any comeback hopes.
The Bison continued to pad its lead. The Bobcats scored three times in the third period but four goals by Olivia Garcia, Olivia Hopper, Kallmeyer and Naraoka prevented any second half swoon.
The third quarter flurry exhausted the Bobcats. Bucknell’s defense clamped down on the foe and held them scoreless in the final stanza. Coultas scored her second goal, Ashley Hopper added a cage-finder and Brooke Temkin finished the scoring at 15-6.
