KENOSHA, Wisc. — Carthage College, a member of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA), seeks a head women’s water polo coach and Coordinator of Club Sports.
Directs all aspects of the competitive intercollegiate water polo program to include coaching and teaching effective strategy, technique and training, recruitment of qualified student-athletes. The head coach is responsible for ensuring compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Conference and Carthage College rules and regulations, establishing appropriate competitive and developmental goals and objectives for program. Additional responsibilities include coordinating and leading club sports including coaching club men’s water polo team. The head coach will be involved with some aspects of alumni relations within their sport and will support fundraising efforts for special initiatives in their program or the department of athletics.
Description of Essential Duties
- Responsible for planning and conducting in-season and where appropriate and permissible pre-season, non-traditional and post-season team/individual athlete practices and competitions. Design instructions for individual student-athletes and for specific team needs, and teach proper skills, skill development, and team concepts to student-athletes. (20%)
- Actively develop recruitment strategies in accordance with NCAA bylaws, identify students to recruit and cultivate expansive recruiting network. Effectively communicate with prospective student athletes by mail, phone, and e-mail, social media as approved by NCAA rules. Participate in on-campus and off-campus recruiting. (20%)
- Oversee overall management of program. Establish and arrange practice and competition schedules; ensure appropriate travel arrangements have been made to include mode of transportation, lodging, and meals; submit an itinerary as requested. Responsible for the distribution and recovery of all equipment and uniforms. Maintain an inventory control system; recommend the purchase or replacement of uniforms and equipment. Identifying problems and/or concerns regarding athletic facilities and work with the Assistant Athletic Director to resolve any facility-related concerns. If assigned, ensure officials have been secured for all home games. Coordinate selection of team by evaluating team members to include athlete talent assessment, academic eligibility and individual social decisions. Analyze opponent performance and provide recommendations for strategies and tactics for utilization during competition play. (20%)
- Oversee, coordinate and develop club sport programs. Coach men’s club water polo team and serve as primary contact for recruitment efforts for club athlete. Develop and maintain policies and procedures for club sport programs. (20%)
- Engage in various fundraising projects and related programs and activities promoting the assigned sport and the athletics program. Participate in public relations opportunities with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and news media. (5%)
- Provide student-athletes with instruction regarding physical health and safety and promote student-athlete safety and well-being. (5%)
- Monitor the academic progress of student athletes and ensure compliance with NCAA, College, and conference regulations; provide council to student athletes regarding goals, academic success and other personal and sport related issues. (5%)
- Serve on various College-sponsored and other committees; seek out opportunities to serve on national and regional sports committees. (5%)
Supervisory Responsibilities
Directly Assistant coach and student staff. Carries out supervisory duties in accordance with college policies and applicable employment laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualification Requirements
- Requires education generally equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree.
- Requires 2 or more years of coaching experience. College coaching experience preferred.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and strong attention to detail are required.
- Master’s degree or progress towards an advanced degree and previous experience working in a college or university athletics department is highly desired.
- National certification in strength and conditioning preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and/or hear, and/or use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls. The employee is often required to stand, and/or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move between 1 and 25 pounds while moving files, folders, or books 5 pounds to 50 pounds while moving athletic equipment around campus. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
Work is performed in an office and pool/field environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
