ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The Carthage College women’s water polo team dropped games to McKendree University, 13-7, and host/Division III No. 6-ranked Augustana College, 14-4.

Against McKendree, the Firebirds were first to put points on the board with Grace Steinberg scoring in the seventh minute. Xiomara Trejo also scored two goals in the first quarter.

However, Trejo was the lone Firebirds’ athlete to score in the second quarter as she buried a shot during third minute.

Mak Werner and Trejo both put up goals for Carthage in the third quarter and Aubrey Korzyniewski scored with 53 seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter.

The Firebirds took 23 shots on the Bearcats.  Trejo led the Firebirds in shots with six. 

Taking on Augustana, Yamila Areizaga scored in the fifth minute of the first quarter.

Areizaga and Kiera Crawley scored in the sixth and third minutes of the second quarter.

Abigail Karpluk scored in the fourth minute of the fourth quarter to conclude the Firebirds’ offense. 

The Firebirds took 21 shots on the Vikings, including a team-high seven by Areizaga. 

Rylee McGee collected six saves during the two games.
