BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Hall of Fame member/former Brown University men’s swimming and water polo coach/former University of Alabama Aquatics Director, swim coach, collegiate club water polo coach/CWPA, Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference (MAWPC), Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Coordinator of Officials Education Ed Reed claimed nine Top Six finishes – including three relay championships – in the 80-84 age group at the U.S. Masters Swimming 2026 Summer Nationals hosted at the North Natomas Aquatic Complex in Sacramento, Calif., on August 5-9.
Swimming for Tamalpais Aquatics, he began a three-day run on Thursday, August 6, by placing third in the 200 meter breaststroke (4.:10.04) prior to garnering a runner-up mark in the 100 meter backstroke (1:42.18).
A day later, he appeared in four events on Friday, August 7, with claim fifth place in the 50 meter breaststroke (46.98) and third place in the 100 meter freestyle (1:20.97). In addition, he swam the second leg (34.96 split) of the first place 200 meter freestyle relay (2:39.69) with Laura Val, Linda Shoenberger and Richard Burns prior to anchoring the men’s 200 meter medley relay team (2:31.74) of Burns, Kenneth Frost and Alan Bernard to a first place mark with a split of 35.05.
Following a sixth place finish in the 50 meter freestyle (35.69) on Saturday, August 8, Reed returned to the water on Sunday, August 9, to college fifth place in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:51.19) before contributing a 35.14 split during the second leg of the championship 200 meter freestyle relay team of Alan Bernard, Tony Ralphs and Burns which finished in 2:17.07.
