2018 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Women’s Division I All-America Team (PDF)

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — A total of 13 Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) student-athletes are among 58 players recognized on the 2018 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) Women’s Division I All-America Team.

The total marks a three athlete increase over the league’s 2017 Division I total of 10 recognized athletes.

Leading the way are a pair of Third Team selections as 2018 CWPA Player of the Year Zsofia Polak (Sr., Dunaujvaros, Hungary/Rudas) of Hartwick College and Maddy Steere (So., Pascoe Vale, Australia/St. Catherine’s School) of the University of Michigan garnered recognition.  The award marks the third All-America nod for Polak who previously collected Honorable Mention notice following the 2016 and 2017 seasons.  Steere racks up her second All-America award after previously claiming Honorable Mention status in 2017.

The remainder of the league’s selections take Honorable Mention notice as goalies Marisol Dakan (Sr., Pasadena, Calif./La Salle) of Brown University and Jessica Gaudreault (Sr., Ottawa, Ontario, Canada/St. Joseph) of Indiana University lead the way.  The award marks the second All-America award for Dakan who previously earned 2015 Honorable Mention status as a freshman.

In the field, Jessica Heilman (Sr., Menlo Park, Calif./Menlo Atherton) of Brown, Marta Considine (Sr., Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) of Bucknell University, Lena Kotanchyan (So., Moscow, Russia/Elk Island School #368) of Hartwick, Kristen Hong (Jr., Orinda, Calif./Miramonte) of Harvard University, Chelsea Johnson (Sr., Miami, Fla./Ransom Everglades) of Princeton University, Marialena Seletopoulou (Fr., Glyfada Athens, Greece/Yannopoulos School) of Saint Francis University and Julia Sellers (Jr., Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) of Michigan earn their inaugural All-America awards. 

Kelly Matthews (Sr., Roxboro, Quebec, Canada/St. Thomas) of Indiana earns her second All-America award (2017 Honorable Mention, 2018 Honorable Mention), while Princeton’s Haley Wan (Sr., Irvine, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) notches her third All-America laurel (2016 Honorable Mention, 2017 Honorable Mention, 2018 Honorable Mention).

The ACWPC All-America teams are selected based on nominations and voting by the head coach of each program by National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division (Division I, II, III).

Since 2005, the mission of the ACWPC is to promote the development and advancement of collegiate water polo. This shall be accomplished by providing its membership with professional education, services, training and a united voice.
