BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2017 Women’s National Collegiate Club Pacific Coast Division schedule.
Comprised of California Polytechnic State University, California State University-Long Beach, the University of California-Los Angeles, the University of California-Santa Barbara, the University of Southern California and newcomer the University of California-Riverside, the six teams will battle for a berth to the National Collegiate Club Championship on Friday-Sunday, May 5-7, at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pa.
Regular season competition will commence on Saturday-Sunday, February 11-12, with 16 games at Long Beach State’s Lindgren Aquatics Center in Long Beach, Calif. The weekend will feature 12 league games as UCLA “B”, which is not competing in the entirety of the Pacific Coast season, will conduct exhibition games against opponents to be determined.
Cal Poly will host the final 15 games of the regular season at the San Luis Obispo Swim Center in San Luis Obispo, Calif. on Saturday-Sunday, March 4-5. Similar to the opening weekend, UCLA “B” will conduct three exhibition games.
The regular season standings will determine the seeds for the Pacific Coast Division Championship on Saturday-Sunday, April 8-9, at UCLA’s Spieker Aquatics. A total of nine championship games will occur to determine the division’s representative for the National Collegiate Club Championship, while UCLA “B” will also contest three exhibition games during the weekend.
Eight-time national champion Cal Poly has been a dominating force in the Pacific Coast Division dating back to the 2005 season capturing the nine previous division titles before San Diego State broke through in 2014 and UC-Santa Barbara claimed back-to-back crowns in 2015 and 2016. Since the division’s founding in 1999, the Mustangs have taken 13 championship plaques (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013), with UCLA (2001), USC (2004), San Diego State (2014) and UC-Santa Barbara (2015, 2016) accounting for the other titles.
