2019 Men’s Collegiate Club Northwest Division Schedule

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2019 Men’s Collegiate Club Northwest Division schedule.

Comprised of Oregon State University, the University of Oregon “A”, the University of Oregon “B”, the University of Washington and Western Washington University along with returning programs Boise State University and Central Washington University, the division will contest its 22nd season as part of the CWPA.

In the history of the division, Washington (1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2009, 2016), Oregon State (2003, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018) and Oregon (2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013) have combined to win all 21 previous Northwest crowns.

The division’s competitive format is comprised of two regional weekends and a championship weekend. During the annual division conference call, membership voted unanimously to allow teams to select the weekends they would like to participate based on the following requirements:

  1. Teams would not need to attend all three weekends
  2. League fees would be based on the number of games/weekends a team participates
  3. Teams interested in qualifying for nationals must attend at least one regional and the championship. Otherwise, a team can decide to attend one, two or all three weekends.
  4. Seeding at the championship would be based on a won/loss percentage
  5. Teams must declare what weekends they will attend once dates and locations are confirmed

Both the division teams and the league office encourage schools to have full participation and not utilize the above format as a convenience or competitive advantage. Schools deciding not to participate in all three weekends would utilize it more based on financial constraints as well as possible roster constraints.

Regular season action begins with 10 games hosted by Oregon State at the Osborn Aquatic Center in Corvallis, Ore., on Saturday-Sunday, October 5-6 prior to concluding on Saturday-Sunday, October 19-20, hosted by Oregon at the Amazon Aquatic Center in Eugene, Ore.

The division championship will be determined on Saturday-Sunday, November 2-3, as Washington hosts the six-team, nine-game event at Rogers High School in Pullayup, Wash.

The victor of the division championship earns an automatic berth to the 2019 Men’s National Collegiate Club Championship slated to be hosted by the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pa., on Friday-Sunday, November 15-17.

It is critical to note that based on the submitted availability, the following teams are eligible to advance to Nationals if they win the division championship:

  • Boise State University
  • Oregon State University
  • University of Oregon “A”/”B”
  • University of Washington
  • Western Washington University

While Central Washington could be eligible, they did not select availability for the championship weekend and are therefore not included on the above list and are not considered a candidate based on their election not to compete for the division crown.
