BRIDGEPORT, Pa. — In the wake of the 2019 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women’s Water Polo Championship at Stanford University the host and National Champion Stanford University Cardinal close out 2019 as the undisputed top team as the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) releases the 2019 Week 17/May 15/Final Women’s Varsity National Top 25 Poll.
Voted on by a panel of coaches from the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA), the MPSF, the Golden Coast Conference, the SCIAC, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the Big West Conference, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and the CWPA based on the cumulative results of the season, the poll is compiled and released on Wednesday during the season through the week following the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.
2019 Women’s Varsity National Top 25 (Week 17/May 15/Final)
Stanford University, which captured the 2019 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Women’s Water Polo Championship with a 9-8 defeat of the University of Southern California over the weekend at home in the Avery Aquatic Center, concludes the 2019 season at No. 1 in the Week 17/May 15/Final Women’s National Top 25 of the year.
Stanford (100 points), which rates as a unanimous No. 1 selection, returns to the No. 1 spot following previous top billing in the Week 11 (April 3), Week 12 (April 10), Week 13 (April 17) and Week 14 (April 24) voting prior to dropping the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) title game to USC by a 9-8 count in sudden death overtime.
USC (96 points), which ranked at No 1 in the Preseason, Week 1-to-10, Week 15 and Week 16 polls, slips back to No. 2 as the change in the top spot is the lone major adjustment in the wake of the NCAA Championship.
The University of California-Los Angeles (92 points), the University of California (88 points), the University of Hawaii (83 points), the University of Michigan (80 points), the University of California-Irvine (76 points), University of the Pacific (73 points), the University of California-Santa Barbara (67 points) and Arizona State University (64 points) retain their positions in the Top 10.
The University of California-Davis (61 points), Loyola Marymount University (54 points), Long Beach State University (53 points), the University of California-San Diego (46 points) and Princeton University (44 points) remain at No. 11-to-15, while Fresno State University (40 points), Bucknell University (32 points), San Diego State University (31 points) and Wagner College (28 points) stick at No. 16-to-19, respectively.
Harvard University (26 points) moves into a tie with San Jose State University (26 points) at No. 20 with California State University-Northridge (12 points) and Azusa Pacific University (12 points) tying at No. 22.
Marist College (10 points) and California Baptist University (4 points) complete the Top 25.
